I do seated dumbell wrist curls as heavy as I can go for 20 reps times 3 sets, and then I do reverse wrist curls the same way. My forearms grow good from them.

Wrist curls are the way to go along with ditching the straps if you can. Our gym has a machine that you plate load and it has twist grips that you plate load. You can go forward and backward on it. It's sort of like a twist grip throttle on a motorcycle. If you have one of those use it. :)
