What do you do during these cruise periods?
Do you stop DC training and go back to a normal training style? Also how long should you train using DC for? and how long of a cruising period should that be followed by? |

The idea of his blast/cruise (periodization) is to hit it as hard as possible (HUGE intensity) for as long as what's good for your body. Some people can blast for a few months, some people can only handle 5-6 weeks... it's all dependent on the individual's recovery abilities. If you pushed on past that point you would end up overtraining and progress would eventually halt. At that point, you begin the cruise, which again, varies with the person, but usually is in the neighboorhood of two weeks. During that time you drop the rest-pause, and perform your lifts with straight sets, not to failure. The idea is to bring the intensity WAY down and allow the CNS to recover in order to blast again. This is also a time when the trainee should experiment with other lifts, replacing stagnant ones with fresh ones, and getting a feel for other exercises. The alternative to cruising would be to quit lifting completely. The reason why the cruise is favored is because it allows the trainee to recover, but also to avoid having to start "fresh," so to speak, when they return to blasting. |
