If your neck is 17 inches plus, chances are you have sleep apnea at some level. This is a proven, studied fact. As for the weight, we are all mass junkies (or as I like to say "body dysmorphic narcissits") we can never be too big and we are never satisfied no matter how big we are. Unfourtunatley, this added mass be it pure muscle or a combo takes its toll on the entire skeletal system over time as does the introduction of chemical enhancement on the connective tissues. If I had a dollar for every overweight person that comes in for a scan on there knees with no trauma or MVA hx, I would be loaded. They are preplexed as to why their knee hurts and in my head I hear a voice saying "it couldnt be that you are 300+ lbs"! Lean, sane, muscle size should be the rule especially after the age of 40. As for the apnea, if you have ins. get a sleeo study done asap. The toll apnea takes on your organs especially your heart is silent and deadly. If you are getting up to urinate frequently (nocturia) at night and snore badly, it is more likley than not it is a response to apnea.During episodes of sleep apnea, the soft structures in the throat relax and close off the airway, setting into motion a chain of physiological events. Oxygen decreases, carbon dioxide increases, the blood becomes more acidic, the heart rate drops and blood vessels in the lung constrict. The body is alerted that something is very wrong. The sleeper must wake enough to reopen the airway. By this time, the heart is racing and experiences a false signal of fluid overload. The heart excretes a hormone-like protein that tells the body to get rid of sodium and water, resulting in nocturia. This is very serious and the long term affects are devastating

Thanks xradiation. I have apnea. I'm sure of it. When I was obese at 270 I had the mask. When I dropped to 165 I slept like a baby. No snoring nothing. Ever since I hit the 210 mark it's been getting progressivly worse. I piss at least once through the night sometimes more than twice.

I'll get a sleep study but if all they offer is a mask I won't use it. I can't sleep with it on. Kind of a damned if I do, damned if I don't.

Apnea is rough.. I definately suffer from it. I couldnt tell you the last time I "slept straight through" an entire night of sleep.. Hasnt been since I was 19 I bet or highly intoxicated... but even then I wake up a couple of times.

I've woke up before with a racing ass heart beat like you mentioned. It's a scary thing. I'm a big snore guy too. Good info, thanks.
