Reloading

I haven't reloaded in years but my FIL just gave me a boatload of equipment and dies. Everything I need to get back into it again. He had a friend that decided to give it up due to palsy and old age.

I got it all as a gift to carry on the tradition. He wouldn't take a nickel for it.

Who else does reloading of your own ammo?

I've bought a bunch of stuff for it, but never assembled it. If I ever got to sit down and work through some loads with someone, I'd probably be busy doing that every night.

I have several odd ball calibers, and it's tough to find ammo...so handloading would be the way to go! I bought a Forster Co-ax and had some custom dies made, based on the reamer used to cut my barrel. But I never have loaded a thing.

I hand load all my precision and hunting rounds; basically anything bolt action. Like Swellin I have a lot of odd ball calibers and ammo can be difficult to find. I do not mess around with pistol ammo or stuff like 5.56 and 7.62x39. The only pistol ammo I have even considered is .357, because it is so damn expensive.

I will probably reload some 6.5 Creedmoor this weekend, because we shot 200 rounds last month and I am getting low.

yeah 5.56 is cheap so is 9mm.

I do not shoot enough .357 mag to warrant reloading. I shoot the cheaper .38 spl. I want a .357 mag cowboy carbine.

If I had the knowledge and equip, I would love to do that shit. I'd spend a lot more time at the range.

Reloading is great if you have a modern rifle chambered in an older cartridge. Rifles like my Marlin 1895 can handle a whole lot more pressure than the standard factory loads that you can buy off the shelf. A lot of people would laugh at me. I would, WITH NO HESITATION, take that 1895 to Africa to hunt the biggest most dangerous stuff on earth. A 500+ grain hard cast solid projectile pushing almost 1600 fps at the muzzle will go through just about anything.

Probably my all time favorite rifle. What chamber pressure would you feel safe firing it at?

People say that you can go all the way up to 43,000 in the 1895. The Garrett 540g Hammerheads are labeled at 35,000 cup. If you have ever seen what one of these rounds does to any flesh and bone creature you put them through I don't see the need to go any higher than that.

I would shoot 43,000 PSI all day in a 1895. Well maybe not all day, my shoulder would be hurting after a bit. I am pretty sure that is why most people load around 36,000. A lot of the .444 Marline cartridges are in the 40,000+ and I have never heard of anyone complaining about weapon failures. Marlins 444 and 1895 are very similar in design.
