Finally catching again

Went crappie fishing at a buddy's boat slip. We were catching crappie on minnows and jigs and I set the hook on this nice eater size blue cat. Over 20 inches I reckon. Maybe 4-5 pounds but perfect for fillets. Got him on a tiny little crappie pole with 6 pound line. I cannot believe he did not get tangled up in the brush piles.

Besides 7-8 keeper crappie caught a couple of 12-13" bass which were fun. Might go back today and fish. Wind was from the north yesterday and they were still biting. It turns from the south today. that normally turns fish on.

What a fun fight and a great outing. Fishing from a couch sitting on a deck with a fridge and cold brew in it. I call that cushy fishing.

Awesome! Nice hooking into those blues when you are crappie fishing.

I always put the dead minnows I take off my crappie lines in the cooler and every time I get 3-4 of them I put a line down for catfish. I always pick up a few cats that way. In fact, one of the biggest flatheads that I ever lost came while bass fishing with live minnows.

I will do the same thing. I put 2-3 minnows on a hook and drop it to the bottom. Raise it 2 turns off the bottom and go back to crappie. Never got a flathead on live minnows but a lot of channel cats and blues.

Got a 20 pound freshwater drum on dead minnows once. Those things are tough fighters.

Smart idea on the dead minnows. I don't normally use live bait.. but I'll remember that for the next time.
Nice cat , jipped

My pal cleaned all the fish for me. I will have a fry soon. I take the smaller crappie fillets and make patties with them. like crab cakes. they are delicious.

I normally do not fish for crappie but they are the best tasting fish in our lakes. Also i can sit on the couch and put my rod on the coffee table with a brew and a cigar and watch college football on the big screen tv.

Yeah that is cushy fishing.

Took my nephew fishing last saturday. We fished for crappie and go zero bites. After 45 minutes he was getting antsy. I took a stale donut and wadded it up on a small hook and dropped it to the bottom.

The marina where we fish always has a bunch of carp and buffalo.

He hooked into about a 8-9 pound buff and his eyes came alive. When he saw the fish and how big it was he he was speechless. We fished for another 2 hours and he caught 2 more one of them being even bigger, maybe 12#.

I sat back, enjoyed one of the 2 of my last cuban cigars and smiled.

He asked when he can come back down to visit when I dropped him with my sis.
