Medical and Physical Therapy questions A place to talk about current and or past injuries and possibly how to deal with those injuries. Any advice should not be considered as medical advice, but rather from one person to another as you might ask a friend.

What do you do for work? The guys that work on their feet usually takes 6 weeks. Guys that have desk jobs are back after 4. At least from what Ive seen.

I work on the power lines, 4 or 6 weeks sounds wonderful to me. My shoulder took forever to get back even close to normal.

yeah meniscus is a sucker shot compared to others. I had mine repaired the same time as my ACL reconstruction.

It will depend on how much is torn and how much they need to remove.... the first two I had were little trims they did orthroscopy... tiny lil holes not much rehab... the other knee was a 35% removal.... that's the one that is bone on bone now 20 years later.... but you should be good to go for a long while

I had a meniscus tear scoped on March 2. I took 3 of the narcotic pain pills, 2 the day of the surgery, 1 the next morning, basically no surgical pain for me. I did use a cane for about a week in the mornings after I got up. Later that month I started walking with my 1/2 marathon walking group. During the spring, May if I remember correctly, my longest walk was 8 miles. I had a little discomfort and did not want to push it too hard and did not do any longer than that. In June I did get 16,600 steps in one day. On July 8th I walked a 5K at a 15:49 minutes per mile pace. It took me about 3 months before I could kneel on that knee. Right now I can tell that the TKR on the knee will be needed down the road, sitting at the computer I have a slight pain in the medial compartment. I'm thinking 1-2 years as compared to my other knee which is scheduled for November 14. This is, for me, almost an exact duplicate of my recovery from the same surgery on my other knee 5 years ago.

Both my meniscuses (right knee) were removed in the 80's, one the regular way (large incision) and the other under arthroscopic surgery. The second one didn't need a long recovery time. That said my knee was never the same again, I ended up bone on bone and having TKR ..... But then again I'm much older than you.
