Flushed from citrulline

I started citrulline malate today. It is an arginine precursor. I noticed that several hours later, my face is flushed. Do nitric oxide boosters like these cause that?

Agree, dilates blood vessels/capillaries. I guess they are the same? A capillary is a blood vessel?



Glad to see someone taking citrulline. It is GREAT! not only that but lowers BP and improves heart health in those with higher than recommended BP.

A 2010 randomized double-blind study (the gold standard of research studies) involving 41 men, discovered that a single dose of citrulline malate (CM) resulted in a significant increase in the number of barbell bench presses (accounting for 52.92% more repetitions) and a 40% decrease in muscle soreness after exercise. “We conclude that the use of CM might be useful to increase athletic performance in high-intensity anaerobic exercises with short rest times and to relieve post exercise muscle soreness,” wrote the study authors.2

Anyway, citrulline and beta alanine together give you a big flush but increase VO2 max more than citrulline by itself and by a diff mechanism. Takes a while for beta alanine to help but worth it bro.

I never got flushed when using citrulline malate. I can't take it though as it causes me to break out with cold sores.

That makes sense. Citruline is a precursor for arginine. Arginine is known to kick up herpes if you have it. When my herpes flares up, I take Lysine 1000mg the first day, then to 500mg day till the flare-up is done. It works pretty quickly. So, if you use have a problem with citruline, take lysine with it.
