Does he stay busy doing alot of activities like playing basketball, biking, alot of walking, etc? If so, gotta cut that out.

Snowpatrol posted alot of the goods so no need to repeat. I will add this though - when I lived abroad in South East Asia for 4 years, I found it impossible to break 235. Simply bcoz of the heat & humidity - you don't have the appetite, and you are constantly sweating once you step outside the house. What I found that got me gaining weight was peanut butter. I would eat 3-4 tablespoons with a glass of milk right before I went to sleep. It didn't happen overnight, but after about 3 weeks I was up 5 lbs. Penny for penny, peanut butter rules when it comes to adding cals. IIRC a normal size jar of PB has around 3300 cals and only costs like $2.75 - you can't beat that.

When you say he eats the whole jar, is he doing that along with eating all his regular meals, and not just substituting? Man hard to believe eating alot of PB daily with all other meals in check won't add weight. That kid must have a metab that many would die for haha!

Just want to add I see you said he is working so hard at the gym. That doesn't mean long time at the gym right? Big diff. IMO he needs to be on a powerlifting type of routine with just the basics, and not even look at a cable or machine. Squats, deads, bench, barbell rows, military press, pullups, dips, barbell curls, skullcrushers. No more than 4 days ew in the gym.

Just my take.

I had forgotten about the peanut butter. When I first started working out a buddy of mine said his old football coach used to push peanut butter for putting on some size.

The Jif Omega 3 has 16g total fat per 2 table spoons with 5g poly and 8g mono.

Before I became interested in bodybuilding, my fight weight was 178lbs and I'm 6' tall.
I tried every gimmick and supp and training method for years upon years until i realized that less frequent, more intese, compound training was the key to putting on mass with my metabolism. DC, 5x5, BossHogg, Starting Strength, etc... were the best training programs my body responded to.
Lots of whole milke and whole eggs, red meat and fats, and I used to SWEAR by Pro Complex protein powder. Now I use a custom blend but with a similar makeup

Thanks fellas. he cannot powerlift due to he shattered his back when he was 13 and his back is all metal tors, pins and screws. That is another factor. He squats light and does heavy leg press but cannot do heavy compound lifts where the back is engaged fro proper form like deads or high axial loads from heavy squats.

He is lucky to be able to do what anything let alone lead a normal life like he does. Tough ass kid. Way tougher than me.

He does play basketball and I told him he is burning those calories but he loves it.

I am going to go buy him the giant jar of PB from sams. He can buy a couple 5# bags of protein from there and we can get oats and the big ass bottle of honey. He just has to consume more or quit BB. I think in 5 years or so he will be able to put on mass easier. But for now his gains will be slow.

Appreciate the help guys. I have not bulked in 13-14 years, it is hard for me to stay skinny, fit and healthy. My body wants to grow. Funny I am opposite of most of you guys and my son hunting mass gains.

I'm impressed and glad he's living such an active life after suffering that kind of trauma

I firmly believe you can build impressive wheels without squatting, good delts without overhead pressing and a decent back without deads or heavy rows

The key is intensity (and exercise selection especially in this case!)

And...rest calories rest calories rest calories....

Thanks snow, he does work hard at the gym. I asked him last night if he wanted to go and he said "Dad Love you and all but you work too quick and not long enough"

I like to move fast with high reps and little rest. Different goals.

He is not enthusiastic about the home made gainer but will drink it for the gains. He says it leaves him full too long. He cannot eat again in 30-40 minutes.
