What line of equpiment do you prefer?

I was contacted by a local HS to redesign their weight room and purchase what would go in it. I know what I like but i'm open for suggestions. Again, brands not pieces.

I like different brands for certain exercises. But my two favorite overall seem to be Arsenal and cybex.

Most of the gyms I go to have a lot of hammer strength still. And it puzzles me at their range of quality on the same equipment.

I really only have experience with Hammer Strength and Nautilus. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Hammer Strength Con's - need a lot of plates, takes up a little more space
Hammer Strength Pro's - some equipment has multiple uses, feels more natural, easy to move for cleaning or rearranging equipment, more resistance

Nautilus Con's - some equipment does not feel natural, maximum weight is too light (at least for me it is), stack weight makes machines hard to move
Nautilus Pro's - easy to change weight if lifters of different skills are using the machine, very little space needed for each machine

Willis, I have not tried a whole lot of the newer lines out that a lot of people are raving about over the past few years. I have mainly used what had been used the last 2 decades like Hammer Strength, etc. If you check out the link and episodes I have on "It's Just Bodybuilding," both Dusty and Ron are both always talking about specific equipment they really like and MUST HAVE in their gyms. Dusty even buys the equipment for the gyms he trains at so that he can use them. If you check out the time stamps after each episode posted, you should be able to narrow down where they discuss it.

Probably a more important question to ask though is...How much is the school willing to spend?

I'd concentrate on the main lifts like Leg press, Leg curl and extension, shoulder presses, bench/chest machines, and back for sure. After that, all free weight, and then some with cables. Maybe a good Smithe machine or two.

That is for machines, of course, dumbbells and free wights and cages are a necessity, especially more than one squat rack. I'd get the dumbells as high as you can, even going every 10-15 pounds over 100# if you have to....to get some heavier weights for the stronger guys.

An additional question would be how much space do they have?

I guess I’m old school. I like Hammer Strength and Nautilus. I have tried Arsenal and Cybex. Cybex has weird range of motion and not the full range I feel like it should have. And Arsenal I have only used there smith machine. I wasn’t a fan either. It was hard to spin the bar to rack and have to spin a half turn instead of a quarter turn to rack. Took some getting used to.

Update to answer some questions.

I know what machines I want, just not sure what brand or brands I’m going to use.

Space is 70x 100

Budget is 150k

The school is small, maybe 600 kids. It’s going to be designed for general fitness but with a focus on football.

GF- you can get additional weights to add to the stacks of the machines. More times than not it’s easy to do. When I first opened my gym all the stacks were standard, I’ve added to the stacks as needed. The only problem you may run into is creating such a high stack it tops out on the space given and shortens the rom.I did that with one of my last pulls. It was a 200 stack, then 250, and then I went to 350 but it topped out so I had to drop it back to 300. Not that many can pull 350 but it looked cool and made you try lol

I would need A LOT more weight. Some of the machines I can do 50+ reps with the stack. Hell, I did 70 reps on the dip machine.
