Optics!

So I'm looking at Optics for my recently put together AR, now as a "man of age" I know I will be adding a magnifier as well.. So I've been looking at the Vortex Strikefire 2 w/ VMX 3T Magnifier and the Sig Romeo5 w/ Juliet 3x..

Anyone have experiences with these? I think Vortex is awesome, but the 4 MOA dot, and just the size of the setup on the PIC rails seems way too much. BUT I've had a few guys say go with it.. but my LE guys say go Sig.. So I'm asking you fine humans what say you?

I think the Romeo is a gold standard but I have a couple of Vortex optics and love them as well. In A-stan, I ran an XPS2 and a 4X FTS mount for my magnifier and loved the setup. Of course this was right around the time the DOD sued the shit out of EoTech for their optics having issues in extreme weather but I still had good luck out of mine and I love the FTS mount on my magnifier. It gave me the option of going both ways. I also have a couple set up with canted flip up sights so I can choose iron or red but the canted sights require some training and retention IMO. I think either way you go, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve got a Romeo 5 & I really like it. It’s on one of my 10.5” builds so I just run it by itself. I have several LPVO scopes & I really think they are the way to go for a multi purpose set up. I really think they are a good choice considering my aging eyes.

I'm an optic snob, so take the rest of this however you will. My go to ar optics are trijicon or vortex razor. I never have to question the gear.

Having said that, I own a couple vortex pst-2 1-6 scopes that are far better than their price point (550ish). I love this scope at this price. Even the Gucci gear snobs have to admit its "okay." lol

The cheaper version that often gets love, even by the snotty folks, is the vortex strike eagle (stroke chicken). It really isn't a bad optic at all! Again, this one is worth more than its cost.

As for the strike fire, I have a couple on M&P AR-22 rifles, and they do the job just fine as far as I've used them. I've seen some in Steel Challenge as well.

As far as sig, I have no experience with that particular optic, but they have lots of problems with their pistol dots, and their riflescopes that interface with their rangefinders. Holosun has the 403/503, which I've used and seen used in classes by guys who could afford Elcan. The guys' input here with experience using this particular one should definitely carry more weight on it.

I’ve got a Strike Eagle picked out for an AR10 build in 308. I’ve got the upper done, I need to milk the lower & assemble it yet so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I order it. I like most Vortex optics.

I have a vortex strikefire 1 and 2 and the vortex spitfire.

Best bang for your buck IMO.
