I like the drop shot rig for finicky crappie. I use a small bass drop shot hook that stands straight out from the line with a soft body bait then a 3/16 oz weight a foot below. never tried it with a minnow. (hint: tie the drop shot hook with a palmar knot with about 14-18 inches of tag, tuck the tag through the top of the eye of the hook, then attach weight. The hook will ALWAYS ride point up as long as there is tension from the weight)

DAMMIT I LOVE FISHING!

When I icefish , I use the same technique for all species. A hook, a split shot , and a slip bobber. For Crappie, Perch, and Walleye, I use small minnows. ( what we call crappie minnows ) For Northern Pike , I use large Sucker minnows 8 or so inches long. No jigging, just drop it, and wait for the bobber to go down, or the tip up flag to pop up.

I'm assuming I don't get to play since my cold weather fishing involves a sweater instead of T and long pants?

Hah, I did look like that last trip to the pier. Low 40s, 15mph winds and rain. I went Michelin Man and that damn wind still cut through me. But I caught fish, so it was worth it.

Finally found a new gym last week after the move and am back to the full workout schedule... it's cutting into my fishing time though, need more hours in the day!

Winter crappie taste the best to me. Super clean.

Agreed, put boy, a deep water walleye through the ice, finicky and difficult but if you get one it will give the crappie a run for its taste money!

How many holes can you drill before your auger battery goes dead? I miss my old gas engine, shouldn't have given it up.
