Rock Bass are notoriously wormy where I am from and considered trash fish. I take it that is not the case in your neck of the woods.

have no idea what a rock bass is. Pics?

Definitely better fighters than large mouths. A 7 lbs large mouth pretty much gives up when you get them in the top foot of water. A 2 lbs hybrid striper or small mouth fights like a 10 lbs fish.

Stripers fight so hard, sometimes they will exert themselves to exhaustive death. We used to fish Lake Pyramid out here in Cali when we were in high school and a few years afterwards, right when they would start to boil on the surface around Feb/March. We'd rent one of the little 5hp lake boats and fish for Largemouth until we seen a boil. We'd put that boat as fast as we could with our top water lures ready to throw into their boils. Right when they hit, they take a nasty dive down. You reel them in close, they are so exhausted, they just give out. We'd have to push them back and forth in the water for their gills to get oxygen....then finally they'd take back off.

They taste pretty good, but we mainly practiced catch and release. A bunch of Chinese and Filipinos pretty much fished it out for a long-while raping the lake dry of even the smaller fish. We stopped going around that time, and also because we were away at college.

We do not have stripers in our reservoirs but we have hybrids. They are fatter and more muscular than stripers and fight like the devil is on their tail.

They can get up to 15# and are stocked every few years.

It is fun to be a school of sand bass (Which also put up a helluva fight) on light tackle and hook a 6-7 pound hybrid. Talk about a line burner.

That sucks. I was going to go out yesterday, but I try not to float the rivers by myself and no one wanted to go. The river changes each time you go out due to frequent flash floods. It is a bad idea to go by yourself even for short floats. There is no cell service and a majority of the time you are in canyons.

I'm a strict bass fisherman. While when I'm teaching my young nephews and daughters.. I will do bluegill, perch and crappie..
But if it's me alone, it's bass all the way

Bass can be fun but I rarely target them. Maybe it is because I am a boy from way up North and a big one is a 3 lber. Or because I never have got the hang of fishing man made reservoirs out here in the West.

I love panfishing as much as I like any fishing myself. Sunfish and Crappie also make for excellent table fare. Something I would not say for bass. Walleye are good, Northern Pike excellent too but you must know how to fillet them to avoid the bones. Trout I will pass on.

I prefer freshwater fish over saltwater with maybe the exceptions of Halibut and White Sea Bass.

Which reminds me that there is a fish fry this Saturday evening at my cousins house when I get back to my home town. I will be thinking of you all when I put away pounds of quality protein
