Gulf in the Yak tomorrow..
King and Cobia season started a little early down here with some massive catches right off of the pier. Cold tomorrow (for FL, 40 or so), but conditions are right for the Kayak in the Gulf and trolling for some big boys.
So I'm putting this out there as I may come back with a big one, or I may not come back... first open water Gulf trip, everything else has been the river, sound or bay so far.. should be interesting. |

Well I survived, but getting the Yak in the water almost killed me. Once I got to the beach I found out just how useless my yak wheel system is in sand. Beach wheels were an extra $150, so I went standard, quickly found out I should have spent the extra cash. I had to drag that big bitch 150 yards through soft sand and then fight the surf to get in and launched. I was dog tired and hadn't paddled a stroke yet. Perfect conditions, but a solid current moving me around that I had to paddle almost constantly to deal with.
That left me with no choice but to troll for most of the morning. Split it up between cigar minnows and a new Rapalla King Mack lure. The yak crew before me didn't get anything, and I didn't have any better luck, neither did the pier gang... fish were out to lunch somewhere else this day. Did get to paddle around with a school of Dolphins for a few minutes, that was kind of cool, was just hoping they didn't snatch my bait and take me for a ride. Will hit the Sound or the Bay next as the launch is a little easier, at least until I upgrade the wheels. |

What part of the gulf did you go? Looks fun, man, even with no catch! It just adds more excitement to it...

I love that part of Fl even tho more and more people are finding the location. I’ve been to Pens, P.C. (Just nearby it), as well as Destin, Daytona, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Jupiter and Miami, to name a few. I don’t like those places bc the beaches get jammed up with people. There’s a park right in between Destin and Panama City that’s beautiful and all nature where no one goes to that we love. Anyway, don’t mean go off subject but Pensacola great for family...

No doubt about that, one of the reasons we chose navarre, sandwiched between Pcola and Destin/Panama City, they take the major tourist loads. We still get our share but much more manageable during the crazy season. Little underdeveloped military/beach town with all of the natural perks of the others. Just have to drive a little farther to get to get the store and movie theater etc.

damn man that looks like heaven to me. I was going to go yesterday to the lake in my yak but winds were up 25 mph gusts and the lake white capping. I have learned that is too much and no fun.
Thanks for this thread man. Keep posting and I will keep repping!
