.243 v .270

Which one would you buy? And why? Don't give me a brand cuz that's irrelevant to this.

Both have what I'm looking for in the brands I've looked at so I just want to hear what all you lead slingers have between those brains that's original. And if someone post what Dave Petzal writes I'll ban you for a day.

depends on it's use. for Texas deer a .243 is fine. they are about the size of a big dog. go up north with bigger animals a .270 is maybe a better choice.

one can get a .243 from 55 grain up to maybe 100 gr projectiles while .270 maybe 100-150. I would say they overlap from 75 grain to 125 grain but the performance characteristics of the low and high sides are way different.

unless you plan on hunting big mule deer or moose a .243 will probably do well, cheaper to shoot, less kick (I do not think I have ever shot a .270 though)

this is coming from a guy who does not hunt but just my small knowledge of ballistics and anecdote from hunters i know

I'd take a .243 if I was hunting flat land... like west texas. the .270 I would prefer if hunting woods like in Arkansas and west virginia... or central or east texas. Running up on an occasional Mule Deer that has 50-75 pounds on a whitetail I would feel better with the heavier slug. Plus... you van always drop a huge hog with a .270.... a .243 might just do a "thru and thru" at close range

For me honestly it would bother me one way or another on either rifle for deer in. I've shot them with a .223 hp and would do that all day long.

I do like the .270 for alittle more ass as it opens up more options bigger than white tail.

well tried to post once and it denied me so here is try #2.

For whitetail/muley I'd shoot a .270, and do. I don't think it kicks bad at all but surely a .243 would be less. i've hunted flat TX and KS and hilly/woody MO with no issues on it.

the real answer depends on what game you are hunting though, I'm assuming deer?

Honestly, I would not choose. I like them both, so I would buy them both.

Coyote is the game and I'm 7-8 years old with a dad that has reached out and touched stuff farther than the human eye can usually see. So .243 was purchased.

Nice brother. If you end up buying another rifle later on down the road I would suggest a 6.5 Creedmoor over the .270. Only down fall is ammunition is a little more expensive.

I was thinking a .25-06... a necked-down .30-06. One of the flatest rifles I ever shot. I don't remember the round (a hand load). But, less than an inch drop at 200 yards. And at a fraction of the kick of the .30-06 I was sighting in at the time.
I just did a quick search for the 6.5. Did you know you can get that in an AR? That would be a sweet operator.... unit 1

.243 is perfect. and if you are going out for coyotes...........well it is about perfect.

superfast with high energy when it hits. great for deer. don't shoot a rabbit with it.......they turn to a gloppy mess.
