Storing water

I store 20+- gallons in the garage and attic.

I use crystal geyser brand bottles to put tap water in with 7 drops of bleach. I have not changed out the water in 2 years so that needs to be done. These crystal geyser bottles are pretty robust and have a good screw cap.

Obviously the water is gravity pressurized and will last a day or two in suburban areas maybe. So you have time to collect more.

Do you have a plan?

How many gallons do you have on hand?

What receptacle do you use?

Do you have a bathtub bladder?

How much water do you have on hand just in case?

I think this is the best bathtub bladder. Do you have one or two?

Besides my 24' pool? Have used it in past blackouts, 7 days, for potable water, toilet flushing and anything else we need/needed water for, 13000+ gallons lasts a good while. Always maintain chlorine levels just like you get from municiple water supplies so it's almost always clean. In a real pinch I have my generator panel wired for my well pump so I'm never without.

I used to keep at least 50 gal on hand. I kept it in 5 gal receptacles made for storing water. A lot of people I know store theirs in 50 gal plastic drums which is ok until you need to move it or bug out. Aside from swimming pools and bathtub bladders, people use their hot water tank for emergencies and of course your toilet tanks hold some water. The tank not the bowl... Lol.

All my water and food is in storage, three states away. I need to get busy and resupply now that I'm settled in a new place.

1/4 teaspoon of bleach per gallon or you can use chlorine @ 4 parts per 1,000,000 gallon. Keeping water in a container that doesn't allow light in will also work.

I have 15 gallons that I cycle every month. I also have rain barrels for irrigating the garden, so not to waste drinking water. The closest surface water is a few miles away.

GREAT link JG. I didn't know bleach breaks down after a year.

Course my plan was always to filter what I drink after I store it, just in case. I have 4 different filter/purification systems on hand. In my mind filters are in the top of my SHTF supplies. You can survive a long time with just a few things and water is almost at the top. 3 days without water and you're dead. I like to prioritize my shit in the order of things that will kill you first. Bullet from a bad guy, seconds. So firearms at the top. Bad injury in minutes... so first aid... Clotting bandages/powder etc. No shelter in the cold, hours. Next is water. Food comes well after water. Course there's always exceptions to the rules but you get the idea...
