I think we have a winner....

So the shoes I wear to the gym have absolutely no arch support, they're a few years old Under Armour, so they basically suck.

While in Chicago I was wearing my usual Allen Edmond shoes, which although expensive as a MF also offer no arch support.

They day I had the worst pain I was wearing some new Sketchers memory foam soled something or others boot looking things but they lack any good arch support too.

Moral to the story, I'm tossing them all, except Allen Edmonds, into the trash and buying some good shoes. I can send the AE off to get recrafted and add rubber soles which might help too.

I'll keep you posted after I find new shoes. I'm kinda funny about my shoes, I only like black for the gym, no fugly colors.

Well the great thing about motion control shoes is they generally are very plain looking. Not too many flashy ones out there.

If new shoes do not rectify the issue, look into chronic extertional compartment syndrome

I only had them when I ran. Never to that end. I do run occasionally in the summer and have not had them. I wear New balance 1540s. Great all around athletic shoe.

Those are a great shoe. With New Balance the higher the number of the shoe the more stability they offer.

I wear them on your recommendation. I get 2 to 3 years out of a pair. I may get a new pair of Chucks though. Just for deads and leg day. But yep. Love these 1540s.

I ran for many years in Saucony kicks and never had any issues after switching.

I ended up getting the Brooks Beast. I've only worn them a few times, the support is so much different than what I'm used to that I need to get my feet used to them. I guess going from dress shoes to gym shoes is a huge step up. I purchased in soles for my dress shoes too.

Thanks for the advice from everyone.
