Most cost effective mass gainer
My son is struggling to put on weight he is 20, 6'2" and 140# after 2 years of training. He hits the gym hard 5 days a week and does a good BB split. He eats constantly and has only made gains in the last 5 months since taking mass gainer. (He has my "jipped genes" in him not to mention my wife is skinny too!) Problem is the cost. Like $30 for 10 days worth.
He had to pay phone, car and insurance payments all together this month and is broke and is freaking out he will loose his gains. He is a young man and i am not going to buy him mass gainer, he already eats everything in my house. i went to sams club and bought a giant bag of almonds. Would last me a month and a half. Gone in 2 days. The huge jars of peanut butter, he will kill one in a sitting. MY WHEY PROTEIN I USE POST WORKOUT HAS BEEN DECIMATED. Help a brother out, what is the cheapest most effective mass gainer. (Not gear, he is 20 fellas) I blended 1/2 gallon of whole milk, 2 bananas, peanutbutter, oatmeal, chia seeds, and whey for him last night after dinner. he chugged it and said he was still hungry 30 minutes later. Oh, the kid still has a perfectly flat stomach.............

I think making your own shakes wold be the best. Something like:
Whole milk (add ice if you'd like) whey protein Peanut butter Banana Honey Oats As long as his protein is high I'm sure he can get away with junk food to keep calories high. I was like this in high school too. Wasn't until my mid 20's until I was able to add some serious weight. |

I started lifting 'seriously' about 6 years ago, maybe coming on 7 now. My starting point was 150lbs, almost 6'1"...yikes
Money wasn't a big issue but I didn't want to waste it either so my staples, as a natural from 150 to 200lbs were (in no order) protein: - carton upon carton of eggwhites from costco - whole eggs in 36packs from costco to add to the eggwhites - turkey and chicken thighs (not breast) - 'tubes' of ground beef from costco - 25lbs bulk orders of whey concentrate (not isolate) from true nutrition or canadianprotein carbs: - bags of rice (obvious, I know) - family-sized boxes of oats from costco - 4L icecream pails from safeway or costco - bananas, I'd freeze them to blend into shakes with oats, PB, eggwhites and whey fats: - family/combo-packs of peanut butter from costco - healthy fats from the egg yolks - shitty fats from the ground beef and poultry thighs Don't waste money on: - bcaas - isolate(s) - casein One other thing...if he's that skinny he might benefit from training only 3-4x/wk instead of 5...and a PPL or even DC split would very likely add more mass than a BB (bro) split if he's doing 4-5 separate "bodypart days" right now |

I agree about making your own, especially from a health perspective.
Using fruit in them can get expensive but it's cheaper if you buy the frozen stuff. A decent whey, peanut butter or olive oil, oats, and banana was my go-to when I was in my early bulking years. |

Lots of eggs. Ask Vince Gironda. Lots of eggs. Raw is better.

I'm not sure how the other posts add up cost wise but GNC is having a BOGO half off on the Mass Tech 2000. It's really only 1830cals though, it's 2000 if you add milk
![]() It's $99 a bucket, $150 for two. It comes to 73,200cals for both so 73 1000cal servings that come to $2.054 each. Here is the link- https://www.gnc.com/protein_fitness/...E&gclsrc=aw.ds They ship it free if you order on line. The down side, getting stuck with 2 buckets of stuff he may not like. |

I always thought I was eating a lot, stuffed myself, drank shakes. Never could break 185. Then I got on remeron and my appetite went thru the roof. Gained like 30 pounds in a month. I ate everything in sight and loads of junk food. Thats when I learned the difference between eating a lot, and eating a f*cking LOT. Slam down the junk food. It's all in the calories.

I have found the easiest way to see what your doing is simply count cals. It will get you on point quicker than anything. It surprises me how many guys don't do it. It seems like a lot of work but really isn't and gets super easy before you know it.

Thanks guys. I feed the boy for sure. We do the pizza hut deal, two medium pizzas with ANY toppings for $6.99 each when it comes. HE LOADS EM WITH EVERYTHING AND EXTRA CHEESE LIKE 4 POUNDS EACH! (when they have that coupon) that is only 2 meals for him though.
I take 5 pounds of ground beef and make a bunch burger patties, it is gone in 2 days. I buy chicken thighs in bulk at sams and grill them with BBQ sauce. again 4-5# of chicken in two days. Not to mention he drinks a large sonic shake on break every day with all the food. Average day. Breakfast, he is not a big eater then. I maker egg muffin things. Just beat a carton of eggs, add hashbrowns, chopped jalapenos and pre cook a couple tubes of breakfast sausage and mix them in. Put them in silicon muffin tins and bake em. that is 3-4 days worth, he drinks a mass gainer shake normally but has reverted to whole choco milk and a bowl of cereal with the egg things. snack normally a sandwich loaded with meat and cheese lunch he is on his own. We have a stack of bogo free coupons we save. He goes and uses the coupon to get 2 platters from fast food and eats em both. after school sonic shake and and 2-3 hot dogs when they are $.99 each before work mass gainer and whatever burger patties, chicken, pork chops ect. lots of rice or beans too. he works and normally has a couple protein bars. dinner this is when it costs us the most. he eats from 10pm until he goes to bed. the kitchen looks like a swarm of locust has descended from hell during Armageddon. That has to be like 6000 calories in a 140# body. I was about 130# until late 20s. He has a longer, thinner frame than me (took after my wife also a couple inches taller) He is working so hard at the gym. gains come so slow for him. I do not want him to start gear use. i do not know his internet sites. He asked about sarms I told him not a good idea until he is finished filling out. Although I really do not know about them. i have used S4 before with decent results but it is mild at best. I think he wants mass gainer shakes just because he is tired of chewing and eating all the time and feeling bloated by so much food. Oh, the toilet paper usage in this house is through the roof! Anyway, thanks guys.
