If you don't lift at least reasonably respectable "heavy things" you are never going to have an reasonably respectable level of development. I don't care how many sets you do, if you lift girl weights, you are going to have a girls body.

A LARGE majority of my training clients come to me answering their questionnaire with something like "strength is not important to me at all, I just want to be huge". Guess what? That is the primary reason they need to hire me in the first place. They have never placed primary focus on getting strong on the key lifts and as a result are still small and frustrated.

You don't need to be powerlifter strong to be big, but every lifter with a decent build lifts decent weights. If you are a genetic freak, or a genetic freak on steroids, please disregard this statement, but unless that is you, it should be taken to heart.

On the same token, if you're a woman and you spend your life playing with pink dumbbells, you're not going to develop the body you're looking for either.

And I've never seen a woman "get huge" by accident. Makes me laugh. If that's not your goal, trust me, you won't get there, LOL.

I saw a kid doing 315 pound deadlifts a few weeks ago for something like 15 reps. He said that he didn't want to go above 315 because he didn't want to hurt his back. So I asked him how long he has been doing 315 and he told me that he has been doing sets of 315 for about 9 months. I just shook my head, put another 45 on each side of the bar, and did 8 reps. I told him if he could beat my 8 reps I would buy him a shake. He did four reps LOL, but he has been working with four plates on each side for the last few weeks LOL. Its funny how sometimes people are afraid to lift bigger weights.

Do you think that his back and legs might be bigger in a few months? I do.
