I'm gunna be training in MMA

I'm going to the closest, and only gym in my area, next tuesday to see if I can start training. My gym membership is up and im looking for a new path in the venture my body is taking. I am ready to take this seriously and to be dedicated as needed. I have weights and my strongman stuff at home so training with weight is still gunna be in my life just gunna be focusing more on learning how to fight.

Also I am looking at getting a bag, gloves, handwraps, and whatever else I need. Anyone have a good starter list for a beginner?

i prefer mexican handwraps they stretch just enough to keep them on when you are putting on and taking off your gloves. we use bag gloves for thaiboxing i bought a pair of slip on windy gloves. they are just fine and cheap. but depends on what your coach wants you to wear.

ialso got the cheap $1 mouth piece for sparring. sure you can get an expensive one but after i molded it my teeth are fine and its more comfortable than my shock doctor which i hate

also will your coach have you roll in a gi? if so i like budovideos.com, they have great prices on gis and BJJ gear.

good luck. it has changed my life for the better. never have i had more disipline in my training. best piece of advice i can give is to leave your ego at the door. little skinny guys will be armbarring you and such as you gasp for breath after 2 minutes of rolling and those same guys will pop you in the nose 3 times in a row before you can even get off one punch.(it still happens to me after over 2 years LOL)

have fun bro. i am no expert for sure but if i can help just shout.

good luck

the list is long bro. are you gonna jump right into sparring?
If no sparring you just need wraps and bag gloves. I perfer Fairtex. If you are sparring you need head gear, mouth piece, wraps, sparring gloves (different than bag gloves) cup, and shin gaurds. you will also need MMA sparring/ training gloves

head gear- any if light sparring if going with good guys i like winning but $$$$
mouth piece- geat a real one no matter what your theeth are not gonna grow back. .... shock docs and all that check out unbreakable
hand wraps I like fairtex but any kind that strech a bit work
sparring gloves i perfer fairtex at first most wont mind you using bag gloves but if you hit hard you will want sparring gloves
Cup- any I like shock doc with comperssion shorts
shin gaurds- I perfer fairtex but many good ones out there.
MMA training gloves _ fairtex but again there are alot of good ones out there.

I have a lil kickboxing training but no sparring yet, I need cardio training bad so I figure I will be shown form a technique for a couple months if not longer while hitting up the comditioning nights hard.

I don't think I need a gi so im not concerned.

I have this for a list so far...

rash guard
grappling shorts
boxing gloves
hand wraps
shin guards
mouth guard
nut cup

I need to drop about 80lbs!!!!!

Well the gym is a lil farther than I thought...about 45mins way. It's a good gym just need to get into a groove. Im starting off in the super-heavyweights and will cut nice and long into 245 range maybe lower.

I can actually fight next month if I want!! I kind of want to because im not scared and have had some training. I dont want to pussy-foot this so I guess we will see how it goes saturday.....it's my first official training day!!!

No offence bro but any gym that lets you fight in a month and havnt even trained the first day yet is not the gym to be at!
If you come from a high level wrestling back ground or something like that then ya maybe.

if you do fight then good luck to ya you will be suprized at the cardio you are gonna need!
