Infections

I have been sick in December for 4 weeks (sinuses, sore throat with bacteria), had elevated liver values, had a bad sinus infection in February and now I have an acute laryngitis. I don't feel like I'm overtraining but I wonder if all these ailments could be a consequence of my workouts (I don't take breaks unless I'm traveling).

There are entirely too many things going on in the world to try and evaluate something like this but..... What I would say is that I personally train every day and I stay fine as long as I get enough rest. I don't make it a point to train if I don't feel like it, I will take a day off if I am too tired..

I would start looking at things in your life that can be controlled like you sleep patterns and nutrition. Sometimes just adding a multivitamin can be a big boost. If there truly is something weakened with your immune system then that would most likely show up easily enough in your blood panels.

PM said it. Look at your sleep pattern, nutrition and your immune system. I think your training is fine right now, but that is assuming your are sleeping enough and are eating adequately.

Your telemeres are short...

Seriously though who knows, probably not related to overtraining and more likely related to randomly picking up some bacteria and a virus. It happens. No real reason most of the time. Be healthy, eat well. Rest and hope for the best.

Doubt it's overtraining. That's nearly impossible for any non-elite level athlete to achieve.

OTOH, people who are seriously in to exercise tend to be more susceptible to lowered immune systems and therefore, colds etc. Most of it has to do with a lack of good nutrition and rest for the levels of activity.

course, sometimes people also just have a string of bad luck with infections. If the pattern continues though, you could ask your doc if he or she feels having some blood work done to see if you are immunosuppressed woulnd't be a bad idea either.

I will have blood work done in a few weeks.
I don't eat much and I guess that my diet isn't balanced. I have anemia but I don't know if my immune system is working ok. It sucks to be tired all the time (can't sleek without a sleeping pill) and get infections every month like I did the last few months.

Anemia is gonna make you tired as hell, coupled with GH and you got a recipe for lethargy. I would suggest bumping up the schedule on the blood work and see what the issue is.

MG, my wife is prone to sinus infections that seem to linger for long periods of time. Try incorporating turmeric and ginger into your diet as well as squeeze fresh lemon into the water you drink with some raw honey. it will soothe and help fight infections

pineapple has bromelain in it which is an enzyme that helps digestion and creates an environment in your mouth and throat in which bad bacteria cannot thrive and will die out.

another idea is seasonal allergies. does this usually happen to you in the winter? if so it may be mountain cedar/juniper pollen. this crap is a winter pollen and is a common tree in Europe (and unfortunately Texas as it was introduced from Euro settlers now grows like a weed) anyway it is a potent allergen and can cause all of the same problems you mentioned. just a shot in the dark but i hope it helps
