My uncle was a Cook Country Sheriff (Chicago IL) he always said his mind set was expect the worst and ramp down from there. Told stories of a couple times the perp's were all polite and cooperative until they drew.... don't know how he did it for so long

I was in an apt complex doing an inspection and the swat came through about 10 years ago. They told me to get down and I did. Amazingly nothing else happened. I was not manhandled, I was identified as being a fellow city employee and sent on my way in 2 minutes.

Always makes me shake my head when people escalate things (Even if they are right) with police. Just comply and if you are wronged, sue them later.
