Home and Auto Insurance

Where do you guys get your Home and Auto Insurance ?
Do you buy through an Insurance agent or direct through the company like Geico or Progressive ?
From what I understand Progressive Direct is substantially cheaper than Progressive Drive ( Progressive Drive is purchased through an agent , while direct does not use an agent ).
Currently my insurance rates seem to be way to high so I’m shopping.

I have State Farm with an agent for house, cars and life insurance. Until recently I even had a Roth IRA with them. They will no longer allow their agents speak directly with clients about investments so I moved mine.

fwiw, it's like everything else

insurance companies assume you will remain with them for 7 years, and at time some are very aggressive on policies, for 4 years i had all my clients switch to libery mutual, threw an agent, saved tons of money, last two times though, they seemed booked up

i don't think it makes a difference, agent or company direct, know the fine print though, it makes a difference on price, etc.

set up a fake email and apply online, and your email is sold to agents and companies, see what you can get and then negotiate, everything is negotiable

we went back to allstate. we had them years ago and found it cheaper. checked around and they were the cheaper one this time.

WAY cheaper for my motorcycle. progressive was $60 a month full coverage and allstate $22 a month.

Just get quotes from a bunch of major companies. that is what we do

I use Gieco for cars and house. Shop around online and as long as you look at apples to apples, go with the cheapest one. I had Progressive for a few years and even with their snap shot thingy Gieco beat them. Prior to that I had Nationwide for 20 plus years until one day the agent called and wanted to know if I wanted a quote from one of their less expensive carriers.....I said WTF? Canceled everything with that agent, cars, house, umbrella, whole life, etc.

my Fiancé just found Geico is the best for her money with both home and car insurance. She called everyone and did her research. Home insurance almost as equal to mine but car insur much, much cheaper (almost $400), which I’m surprise. Same coverage on car insurance even tho 2 diff cars, they’re close to same price range. I’ve been with State Farm all my life. My family of 2 generations had them. They’re not the best priced but they took care of all of us very well when things took a turn...

I’ve been checking online quotes. I currently pay $3600 for three vehicles and three drivers ( my son is 19 ).
The Geico quotes for comparable coverage is $ 2000. That’s a big price difference. Still looking, but I’m leaning towards Geico right now.

I have Western Reaerve. That's one company I highly recommend if you have a claim. They did outstanding every time. No hassle or argument just mailed checks. Never raised my rates either.

Correct if you go Progressive direct then they will be cheaper due to them not paying agents commission. They are the only carrier that does this. The reason why I won't get appointed with them as an agent. Geico is often cheaper but IMO they are to be avoided unless finding the cheapest is the only thing that is important to you. They are often not the cheapest, I beat them all the time. They have poor claims practices and after 20 years in the business they are the only carrier I would bad mouth.

Obviously I would say go for an agent but it depends on what you want. Auto is cut and dry for the most part, but homeowners is best to be able to go over with a agent for your personal needs. Best thing to do is go to an Independent agent that has numerous carriers and they can shop for you. Have 2 or 3 to go to as we all have different carriers. Carriers rates are always cyclical. Each one goes through a cycle of lowering rates and raising due to rising claims. They also often change the demographic they want to target with the best rates. So it does serve you best to shop around at least every other renewal. Not sure what trip means by negotiable but rates can not be haggled. They are set by the carriers and we simply offer what they say. You might come across an agent that withholds discounts and tries to get you for a higher rate and then lowers if he feels you are not biting. If they do that then move on to the next one. Don't tell them what you are currently paying because not only does that help them withhold discounts you are entitled to but we also get production bonus'. So if I know I can save you $500 with carrier A but only $300 with carrier B, but B is giving me an extra 10% for a 3 month promotion then agents will try and steer the business. Nothing wrong with doing that but if they know what you pay then you just might not get their best offer. When I don't know what a lead is paying they get my best offer loaded with every discount I am allowed.
